A “work” is no longer simply a score or recording but an ongoing set of relations among performers, listeners, platforms, and code. This ontological reframing follows philosophical worries about reifying aesthetic objects (see Kivy, The Fine Art of Listening) and invites treating music as emergent practice.
2. Authorship and creativity
Networked tools, sampling cultures, collective collaborations, and AI-assisted composition disperse intentionality. Authorship becomes layered and distributed, undermining simple originality narratives and complicating moral and legal claims of ownership.
